Biographical Note:

Davison M. Douglas was elected 17th president of USC in 1927. A recipient of an M.A. degree from the South Carolina College in 1899, Douglas had studied at Princeton Theological Seminary and had been president of the Presbyterian College of South Carolina from 1911-1927. He was instrumental in raising requirements for degrees and believed in devotion to scholarship. He served as president of USC until his death in 1931.
