Background: The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs supervises all scholastic affairs at the University.
During the 19th century, the President of the University performed these duties; by 1909, growth of the University
mandated creation of a full-time position of Dean of the University to oversee the
administration of academic policies and monitoring of students and faculty. The
position was altered to that of senior vice president in 1966 and then to provost in
1968.
Scope and Content Note:
The collection contains reports from academic and non-academic departments, and
correspondence with the President, faculty, staff, students and others. This
collection is often complementary to items found in the President’s records.
