As a School of Music student, you’ll be studying and performing in some of the best facilities in the southeast. You’ll enjoy beautiful performance venues like the Koger Center for the Arts, Johnson Performance Hall and the School of Music Recital Hall.
The main School of Music building houses the music library, recording studio, recital hall, offices and more than 100 acoustically designed rooms for practicing, rehearsing and teaching. Carolina's Music Leadership Laboratory is housed in the Spark Lab, an innovative environment that inspires collaboration, creativity, entrepreneurial ventures and big ideas.

Koger Center for the Arts (1051 Greene St.) adjoins the School of Music building and seats 2,256. The hall has hosted international performers such as the London Philharmonic and the Vienna Boys Choir. The USC Symphony and USC Bands perform regularly at the Koger Center.
School of Music Recital Hall (813 Assembly St., 2nd floor) seats 200 and serves as an intimate performance hall and lecture auditorium. The hall is equipped with extensive audio and video systems, variable acoustics and full lighting package and boasts two New York Steinway grand pianos and a Lynn Dobson Pipe Organ.
The W. W. Hootie Johnson Performance Hall (1014 Greene St., level 1) is a 500-seat hall in the new Darla Moore School of Business building, designed by Raphael Viñoly Architects of New York. The recently completed building adds more flexibility to meet the performance needs of students, faculty and guest artists and will set a new standard for innovation and energy efficiency in higher-education facilities. It is located adjacent to the School of Music and Koger Center buildings.
Our nationally-acclaimed String Project is housed in a beautiful new facility located adjacent to the School of Music building and includes rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, offices and a library. (851 Park Street)
The Copenhaver Band Hall houses practice areas, rehearsal rooms and instrument and uniform storage for the Carolina Marching Band. Right outside the beautiful new building is the marching band practice field, which can be observed from the hall's interior bank of windows. (326 Sumter St.)
Acoustically designed, soundproofed and individually climate-controlled rooms are available for practicing, rehearsing and teaching.
Our Music Library has one of the largest collections in the Southeast – books, scores, print and electronic journals, audio and video recordings and special collections. You can check out circulating audio and video recordings or view and listen in the library. Electronic resources include Alexander Street Press Classical Score Library I and II, Opera in Video, Dance in Video, International Index to Music Periodicals, RILM, RIPM, Oxford Music Online (Grove), DRAM and Naxos Music Library.
The Recording Studio (Studio C) is the nerve center of the School of Music’s recording operations and interfaces with multiple performance and rehearsal spaces throughout the building. It is open all hours for School of Music recording sessions, audio courses and student projects.
The music technology center (MTC) is an iMac computer lab, open daily for student, faculty and classroom use. Workstations include current software required for research, writing and music-related classwork and digital piano keyboards with MIDI interfaces.
Two computer music studios (Studios A and B) function as small classrooms and workspaces for students and faculty. These studios house digital recording equipment, synthesizers, samplers, sound processors and other equipment required for electronic composition students and those enrolled in audio recording classes.
Spark: Carolina’s Music Leadership Laboratory taps into the creative and imaginative energy of music students and faculty. The office for the institute, room 106 in the School of Music building, is designed to stimulate team collaboration and creativity.
Designed to help faculty and staff members reduce the environmental footprint of their workplace, the School of Music became a Green Certified Office in Fall 2017. This program recognizes departments who are making the effort to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily activities, including energy conservation, resource consumption, waste diversion, alternative transportation and recycling.
