Saturday Conservatory

This six-week course combines chamber music and music theory instruction for middle and high school students. Participants with at least three years of study in string, woodwind and brass and have intermediate reading ability are eligible to participate in small ensembles.

Participants have six coaching sessions with an experienced chamber musician studying works from the standard repertoire or works of their choice with instructor approval. Students also learn some essential music theory to improve their overall understanding of the fundamentals of music. A teacher recommendation is required.

Students are encouraged to bring their own group, but will be matched with other students of similar age and development if registering individually. Ensembles can be supplemented with a USC student music mentors with chamber music experience if needed.

All groups receive coaching sessions by USC graduate students and have opportunities to perform in master classes with guest artists. At least one performance will be arranged for each ensemble.

Tuition: $150 or $135 with family/multiple/senior discount

Chamber Music Groups: 10–11:30 a.m.
Music Theory: 11:30 a.m.–noon
Lunchbox Guest Artist Master Classes and Performances: noon–12:30 p.m.
