Chosen through a competitive juried process, the winning group is awarded an opening night performance, full tuition scholarships to the retreat, a $500 stipend and a private professional development coaching with Dr. Cutler. Criteria includes artistic excellence and innovative event design.
The Savvy Musician in Action is about both music and entrepreneurship. To emphasize this dual goal, the retreat's opening concert features a forward looking student chamber group affiliated with a North American music school, chosen through a competitive juried process.

C Street Brass at 9:15 p.m.
C Street Brass was founded in 2007 and appointed ensemble-in-residence at Carnegie Mellon University in fall 2012. With their unified sound and dynamic stage presence, the group has quickly established itself as a leading brass ensemble. C Street Brass' vast repertoire is drawn from the standards of brass quintet literature, contemporary classical and electronica music, arrangements and transcriptions.
Founded in 2011 by graduate students at UNC Greensboro, Quintet Sirocco joins a small group of international ensembles dedicated to expanding the visibility of the reed quintet. Consisting of oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone and bassoon, the reed quintet produces a unique range of tonal colors compared to other wind chamber ensembles.
Clocks in Motion is a contemporary percussion ensemble dedicated to performing modern chamber music and commissioning new repertoire. Formed in 2011, Clocks in Motion began as an extension of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Graduate Percussion Group and now serves as the ensemble-in-residence with the UW-Madison percussion studio.
