The University of South Carolina will celebrate its wordwide connections Nov. 12-16 as Carolina marks International Education Week on campus.

International Education Week is a national initiative that supports international educational exchange programs to prepare Americans to live and work in a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study in the United States. At USC, the week features more than 20 events and activities that promote study abroad opportunities and offer visibility to international students and cultural student organizations on campus.

The celebration kicks off Monday, with an international bazaar from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Greene Street in front of the Russell House. The bazaar celebrates cultures from around the world through dancing, food, music and displays. Organizations and groups will also be there to share opportunities for international involvement.

Also Monday, faculty, staff and students are invited to enjoy some ice cream while learning how to be a buddy for new international students. International Student Services is launching the Buddies Beyond Borders program at 3 p.m. at the International House at Maxcy. This is an informational session to learn about the new program connecting international newcomers to Carolina.

Later Monday, International Student Services and Capstone Scholars are sponsoring “Around the World Trivia Night,” an annual competition challenges groups of three to five students to put their world knowledge to the test. The competition runs from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Capstone Campus Room.

On Thursday, Nov. 15, the International Student Association is sponsoring an international dancing extravaganza from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the ROTC Drill Hall. Participants will learn dance moves from Spain, the Middle East, India and the Caribbean.

International Education Week also includes an exchange student meet-and-greet, a Mediterranean cooking demonstration by Patricia Moore-Pastides and other events each day of the week.
