April 15 may be tax day, but don’t wallow in tax filing misery. Some of Columbia’s top restaurants are set to help you eat away the blues during the second annual Chefs on the Shoe fundraiser on the historic University of South Carolina Horseshoe.

The food festival will take place from 5:30- 10 p.m.

Dozens of local restaurants and their chefs will circle the Horseshoe with their meals on wheels, and let guests enjoy the cuisine of some of Columbia’s signature restaurants, such as Blue Marlin, Forest Lake Club and 2108 State.

The event will be hosted by students in professional event planner Annette Hoover’s hospitality, retail and tourism management class.

Chefs on the Shoe will raise money for an endowed scholarship in memory of Chef Jules Pernell, who was an executive chef and instructor at USC’s McCutchen House for 22 years. He passed away in October 2011.

"Chef Jules Pernell truly cared about the students and the community, and this event is the perfect way to give back.  He believed that no student should be in debt because of student fees and that is why we have created this scholarship in his name. It is amazing to see the community's response to this cause. I know this will be a great event," says Ashley Cady, sophomore hospitality and tourism management major.

In addition to food, there will also be a silent auction at the event.

Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $10 for students, military personnel and senior citizens and free for children 10 years old and younger.
