The Sport and Entertainment Management (SPTE) graduate program at the University of South Carolina has been ranked 21st globally and 9th in the U.S. by SportBusiness International magazine.
The SPTE graduate program is a division of the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management.
The rankings were based on the program’s curriculum and student success once they graduate and enter the workforce.
"Considering there are approximately 200 graduate programs in North America alone, this is a great accomplishment," said Matthew Brown, graduate director for the university's Sport and Entertainment Management program. "This should greatly increase our program's presence both domestically and abroad."
The master’s degree program in Sport and Entertainment Management trains students for management and leadership roles in the sport, entertainment and venue management industries.
Students who earned master’s degrees from USC’s SPTE program are currently working in the following industries: professional sports (21 percent), sport venues (18 percent), college athletics (18 percent), non-sport business (14 percent), live entertainment (11 percent), higher education (10 percent) and other sport and entertainment industry professions (8 percent).
The SPTE program enrolled 660 students in 2012-13, of which 52 were students pursuing master’s degrees.
