S.C.'s best: Daily Gamecock wins top awards

The University of South Carolina’s student run newspaper, The Daily Gamecock, was named the state’s top collegiate newspaper, winning the award for general excellence along with 30 others at the South Carolina Press Association's annual event in Orangeburg.

The Daily Gamecock won first-place awards in 16 categories, including the journalist of the year award won by former editor-in-chief Colin Campbell. The organization also won best website and best use of Facebook and Twitter.

“This has been a remarkable year for our organization,” Campbell said. “Our entire staff has been committed to a culture of excellence and we’re all very proud that commitment is getting the recognition it deserves.”
