The University of South Carolina had a record $149.1 million in private giving for the year ending June 30, bringing the university’s Carolina’s Promise campaign total to $756.5 million.
The fundraising milestone is the sixth consecutive year for record fundraising since the university’s capital campaign began. The total for fiscal year 2011-2012 was $146.8 million.
President Harris Pastides said this year’s record private giving affirms donors’ confidence in the university and affirms the commitment to making an outstanding education affordable and accessible.
“Throughout this critical campaign, Carolina’s friends recognize that this great university, in spite of difficult financial times, is growing in stature and confidence,” Pastides said. “Indeed, these are the true friends who have, year after year, caught the spirit and are determined to help move our university forward by supporting our core mission of teaching quality, research and outreach on every USC campus throughout the state. They join with us in improving the quality of life in our state, nation and world.”
Susan Lee, interim vice president for development and alumni relations, said donors recognize that through their support they are investing Carolina’s students and future.
“It is inspiring to see so many alumni, friends, foundations and corporate partners provide the support and leadership to help fulfill Carolina’s Promise even during tough economic times. I am grateful for the vision provided by Dr. Pastides and David Seaton, our campaign chair, and the tireless efforts of our dedicated volunteers and staff,” Lee said.
