The structure of the College of Nursing represents a way of organizing
the academic, research, and service functions of the College. The
Office of the Dean provides oversight of the educational and research functions
of the College of Nursing, implements partnerships with private and public
leaders, and obtains additional resources for the College of Nursing through
fundraising. The Offices of Academic Affairs and Student Services
provide the framework for the planning, implementation, coordination, and
evaluation of the academic programs and student services of the College.
Leadership and administration of research and evaluation activities are
provided through the Office of Research. The specific functions of
each of these administrative areas are provided under the headings Office
of the Dean, Office of Academic Affairs, Office of Student Services, and Office
of Research.
Faculty of the Whole
The faculty are organized under the leadership of the elected Chair
of the Faculty. This structure provides the framework for assigning
faculty teaching loads based on interests and expertise across programs
and facilitates curriculum development based on group interaction
and sharing.
Position Descriptions
DEAN
General Description
The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative
officer and provides the overall leadership and administration of the College.
The Dean serves as a liaison between the College, other academic units,
the community, and the nursing profession.
Organizational Relationships
The Dean of the College is responsible to the Vice President for Research
and Health Sciences and Provost of the University. The Dean collaborates with University
officials, deans of other schools and colleges, and administrative officers
of the University to administer the programs of the College in keeping
with University and College missions and goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
-
Assesses needs, advocates for and develops resources, makes
arrangements and coordinates actions necessary for the work of the College,
its faculty, students, and staff.

Monitors the quality of teaching, research, and services.
-
Oversees faculty recruitment, selection, assignment, promotion,
professional development, and performance evaluation.
-
Monitors educational standards to ensure that the College
maintains national accreditation and approval by the State Board of Nursing.

Oversees the progress, academic discipline, grievance, and
general welfare of students.
-
Guides employment, supervision, and retention of support
staff.
-
Assures that instructional, research, and service programs
advance and fulfill goals.

Supervises the acquisition and management of administrative
computer technology and media resources.

Interprets nursing, nursing education, and the policies and
programs of the College to the public, its representatives, practitioners,
and colleagues.

Establishes constructive relationships with health agencies,
other organizations, and the nursing community.

Develops and maintains networks of support for the College
within and outside the University.

Oversees the preparation of budgets, controls expenditures,
accounts for the disbursement of all funds.

Directs planning and development activities for the College.

Provides leadership in national nursing and health care forum.

ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
General Description
The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs serves the College by providing
administrative leadership and guidance in all academic related activities.
The Associate Dean devotes approximately 50% of time to administrative
responsibilities and 50% to research, teaching, and service to the College
and the University, and broader academic and professional communities.
Organizational Relationships
The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is directly responsible
to the Dean of the College and administers the academic programs of the
College in a manner consistent with the University and College missions
and goals. To provide a formal mechanism for maintaining cooperative
and collaborative relationships within the College and the University,
the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs meets as needed with the Dean of
the College of Nursing, the Dean of the Graduate School, the Associate
Dean for Research, the Chair of the Faculty and the Assistant Dean for
Student Services.
Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees the development, implementation, and quality of
the academic programs of the College.

Serves as the Graduate Director for graduate programs of
the College.

Collaborates with other units of the University and other
institutions on behalf of the academic programs.

Provides support and input to individual faculty members,
groups of faculty members, and the Curricula Committee in the development,
revision, and evaluation of academic courses and programs.

Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Student Services
in implementing academic policies.

Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research and the
Curricula Committee to plan and conduct the evaluation of the College's
programs.

Secures grants and other funds to support academic programs.

Serves as a member of the Dean's Administrative Council,
College Advisory Committee, the Curricula Committee, and the Student
Affairs committee.
ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR
RESEARCH
General Description
The Associate Dean for Research provides the overall
leadership and administration of research and evaluation activities for
the faculty and students in the College of Nursing and serves as a liaison
for the University, clinical facilities, and extramural funding sources
in matters related to research. The Associate Dean for Research devotes
approximately 50% of time to administrative responsibilities and 50% to
research, teaching, and service to the College and the University and broader
academic and professional communities.
Organizational Relationships
The Associate Dean for Research is directly responsible
to the Dean of the College of Nursing and collaborates with the Chair of
the Faculty in facilitating faculty and student research, with the Associate
Dean for Academic Affairs and faculty committees in meeting the research
and evaluation objectives of the College of Nursing.
Duties and Responsibilities

Provides leadership for research and evaluation activities
of the College and ensures that these activities are consistent with the
missions and goals of the College of Nursing and the University.

Facilitates faculty and student research efforts through
guidance in seeking sources, acquiring resources, and processing grant
applications.

Represents research interests of the College at the University
and at state, regional, national, and international levels.

Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs,
Chair of the Faculty, and faculty to meet the research and evaluation objectives
of the College.

Coordinates the evaluation program of the College of Nursing.

Advises the Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and
Chair of the Faculty on matters pertaining to research and evaluation resources.

Maintains liaison with units of the University and with agencies
at the local, state, and national levels in matters pertaining to funding
for research grants.

Secures grants and other funds to support activities related
to research and evaluation.

Provides leadership and guidance to personnel employed to
support research and evaluation resource activities.

Serves as a member of the Dean's Administrative Council,
College Advisory Committee, and the Research Committee.
CHAIR OF THE FACULTY
General Description
The Chair provides the professional leadership and administration
for the faculty. The Chair devotes approximately 50% of time to administrative
responsibilities and 50% to research, teaching, and service to the College,
the University, and the broader academic and professional communities.
Organizational Relationships
The Chair is directly responsible to the Dean of the
College of Nursing and collaborates with the Associate and Assistant Deans
on the quality and coordination of course offerings and programs, the recruitment
and retention of students and faculty, and research endeavors. Regularly
scheduled meetings with the Dean’s Administrative Council and the Faculty
provide the formal structure for the Chair to maintain cooperative and
collaborative relationships within the College of Nursing.
Duties and Responsibilities

Presides at faculty meetings.

Fosters climate of faculty governance.

Shares responsibility for college-wide planning, organization,
management, and coordination of teaching, research, practice, and service-related
activities consistent with the philosophy, mission, and goals of the College
of Nursing.

In collaboration with the Associate Deans for Academic Affairs
and Research, provides leadership for ongoing planning, development, and
evaluation of course and program offerings.

Maintains liaison with appropriate units of the University
and with agencies at local, state, and national levels in matters
related to faculty and their responsibilities.

Advises the Dean, Associate Deans and Assistant Dean on faculty
matters as they relate to the overall policies, goals, and initiatives
of the College.

In conjunction with the faculty, assesses the resources required
to fulfill the College’s mission and to enable faculty to optimize
their professional contributions, communicates needs to the Dean; and negotiates
on behalf of the faculty to acquire College resources.

Plans, and implements faculty assignments.

dimensions of educational programs.

ASSISTANT DEAN FOR
STUDENT SERVICES
General Description
The Assistant Dean collaborates with the Dean, Associate Dean for Academic
Affairs, and Chair of the Faculty in providing leadership for planning,
implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the student service programs
of the College. The Assistant Dean has primary responsibility for
administering the Office of Student Services and identifying and implementing
programs and activities that benefit undergraduate and graduate nursing
students. The Assistant Dean reports to the Dean of the College of
Nursing.
Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates scheduling of course offerings.

Supervises clinical contract processes and serves as liaison
between the College and clinical agencies.

Serves as liaison between the College of Nursing and the
University Office of Distance Learning.

Supervises the student scholarship process.
-
Supervises and participates in academic advisement.
-
Supervises student recruitment activities.
-
Plans and coordinates information sessions for prospective
students.
-
Directs student orientations.
-
Monitors enrollment management activities.
-
Represents the Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
at meetings and conferences as needed.

Secures grants and other funds to support students

Completes surveys and other requests for other information
related to students and their programs.
