A. Strategic Plan
The purpose of the planning process is to identify and communicate
the College's long-range goals and annual objectives in a way that will
support budget requests and ultimately, resource allocation and program
development.
An annual update of the results of assessment activities is necessary
during each planning year. The Dean’s Administrative Council provides leadership
in evaluating annual goals and developing the strategic plan. Each year
the strategic planning update includes a new action plan and budget requests.
The strategic plan is available on the College web site.
B. Budget
The Strategic Plan provides the basis for the college budget request.
The college budget is clearly based on the Strategic Plan and represents
projected costs, including resources to be reallocated within the current
operating budget for the implementation of the plans during the next budget
year. New initiatives must be funded from a variety of sources, including
internal reallocation, state funds, private donations, overhead from grants,
and endowment monies. All expenditures of the College require approval
in the Office of the Dean and some expenditures require Provost approval.
The College Business Manager has information on expenditures requiring
approval by the Provost. The Chair of the Faculty and each administrative
office has a budget for categories of funds essential to achieve its objectives.
C. Technology Resources
A userid for network computing is assigned by the Network Manager. This account can be used for college wide e-mail as well as Internet mail.
The Network Manager also provides access to the World Wide Web and other
Internet Services, maintains the hardware and software resources of the
College, and is available to answer questions relating to the same.
Faculty who wish to develop media to enhance their courses or support
scholarly endeavors are encouraged
to seek consultation from available University resources. The Chair
of the College Educational Resources and Technology Committee should be
contacted for assistance.
The faculty resource room is located on the fifth floor and houses two
personal computers and a laser printer. A variety of software is available
on this computer to assist faculty with such activities as manuscript,
grant, and overhead transparency preparation. Access to this room is by
a combination lock. Check with the Dean's Office for room code.
D. Space Allocation
Conference rooms reservations can be made by contacting the Administrative
Specialist in the Office of the Dean.
E. Information
Resource Center
The Information
Resource Center (IRC) is located on the third floor of the College of Nursing,
Room 306. The IRC contains a computer lab and a TV viewing lab. Student
assistants staff the IRC and are available to assist with the resources that are
available. The IRC also houses the
College
of Nursing audio-visual equipment and maintains the key for room 409. Please
see the College of Nursing webpage for specifics on how to request equipment for
checkout. The IRC offers a variety of services which include printing, faxing,
scanning, laminating, and more. Fees for these services are posted in the IRC
and on the College of Nursing website. The IRC has hundreds of videos and many
computer programs to enhance learning in all subject areas. Items available for
checkout in the IRC include otoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, laptops, tuning
forks, reflex hammers, video cameras, digital cameras, and more. Some items are
only available for checkout by Faculty. Equipment housed in the IRC is for
official College of Nursing business only. Persons with proper authority
checking out equipment are assumed to be using it on official
College
of Nursing business. The hours of operation for the IRC will vary depending
upon course offerings. Updated hours will be posted on Nursing Television
system (NTV), the College of Nursing website and outside the IRC. Policies and
procedures for the IRC can be found at the Helpdesk or on the
College
of Nursing webpage.
Also managed by the IRC staff is the Client Simulated
Laboratory (CSL). The CSL is located on the first floor
behind the elevators. If you are teaching in the CSL and
need supplies, please see the IRC Director prior to the
beginning of the semester to ensure that we have the
supplies you will need and to have a cabinet designated
for your class. The IRC Director is also responsible for
maintaining an inventory of all medical equipment in the
CSL. Any problems or concerns about existing equipment
should be reported as well as any desired additional
equipment to assist in teaching your courses. Students
are not permitted to enter the lab or remain in the lab
after class unless attended by an instructor or an IRC
authorized Graduate Student. Faculty are responsible for
making sure the lab is clean at the end of each class
session. Policies and Procedures for the CSL are
available on the College of Nursing website or at the IRC
Helpdesk.
The IRC also maintains the Nursing Television (NTV) system
which broadcasts college related information to our
students, faculty, and staff on strategically placed
monitors in the student lobby, 1st floor entrance, and 2nd
floor entrance. To place information on this system, it
has to be directly related to the functions of the
College. Information can be posted by faculty, staff, or
students. To include information on this system, contact
by phone or e-mail the Assistant Director of the IRC.
F. The Center for Nursing Leadership
The Center for Nursing Leadership was
established in 2004. The Center focuses on leadership
development, enhancing collaboration and serves as a forum
for leaders to engage in shaping the future of health care
and health policy. The Center's mission is to develop and
advance dynamic nurse leaders in all areas of practice.
The Center houses several ongoing programs in the
College
of
Nursing:
The Amy V. Cockcroft Nursing Leadership Development
Program, the Viana McCown Lectureship, the annual Nursing
Summit and future collaborative leadership development
programs that will include student leader development.

College of

person, group, organization, or association that has
elevated the visibility of the College and provided
significant contributions to the educational, research or
practice mission of the College.
