Mediation Services

Mediation is a voluntary and private process in which a neutral third party facilitates the discussion and identification of issues between disputants, the development of alternate solutions, and the non-directed negotiation of a mutually satisfying outcome to the dispute.

Conflict is a part of everyday life. You may experience it with friends, roommates, or coworkers. Conflict does not have to be negative; it can actually indicate that it is time for a change in a relationship. It is important to address that conflict in an appropriate way to reach the best possible outcome for all parties involved. The outcome of that conflict is not based so much on the type of conflict that occurs, but on the way people deal with conflict individually.

Mediation is an opportunity for individuals to resolve conflict by understanding the underlying reasons for it. The people involved focus on the "root" of the problem and identify common ground between them. From this understanding can come a solution generated by the individuals involved meeting their needs. This is a process that can generate a long-lasting solutions to conflict, and can help strengthen relationships between individuals.
