Things to Know
Mediation is...
A voluntary process.
Both/all parties involved must want to resolve
the issue and be committed to the process.
A private process.
Information is not disclosed unless it is agreed
upon by the parties.
Conducted by a neutral
and non-directive mediator.
The Mediator does not know the parties involved
or the history/information of the dispute. The mediator does NOT
suggest any solutions to the conflict - the parties must do that.
Who are the Mediators?
The staff have been through a 30 hour mediation training program at the Donald D. Gehring Campus Judicial Affairs Institute sponsored by the Association for Student Judicial Affairs. Other mediators are volunteers who have completed a 20 hour mediation training program here at the University of South Carolina. They volunteer their time for this service.
