I. Policy
The University provides limited telephone repair service for
University-owned equipment and extensions assigned to
residence halls.
II. Procedure
A. When problems occur with University-owned equipment in
academic or administrative areas, call
University-Telephone Repair (7-8153).
B. When problems occur with dormitory room extensions,
students should first check their privately owned sets
in another jack in the residence hall. If the problem
seems to be in the line and not it the set, call
University Telephone Repair (7-8153). If AT&T,
Southern Bell or a University system technician
determines that the problem is in the set and not in
the phone system, the owner of the set or the
student(s) assigned to the room on the date of the call
will be charged a minimum of $118.00 for each repair
call.
C. Under no circumstances should employees or students
call any telephone company or vendor such as Southern
Bell or AT&T.
1. Such action is legally susceptible to charges from
either company, especially if the company is
wrongly accused of the problem.
2. If USC should incur any such charge, it reserves
the right to recoup all charges from the
department responsible for the extension or the
student(s) to which the extension is assigned on
the date of the repair call.
