Situations which may warrant dismissal of a patient from care, or loss
of eligibility for care, at Student Health Services facilities include:
- Persistent refusal to follow, or a history of failure to comply
with, prescribed treatment protocols and procedures.
- Tampering, altering, or otherwise improper or illegal use of
prescriptions or medications.
- Lying, furnishing false information, or misrepresentation of
the truth in, or with regard to, any transaction with Student
Health Services staff.
- Failure to obey or comply with polices, rules, and regulations
issued by the University of South Carolina.
Situations, which may warrant either dismissal from care, withdrawal
of eligibility for care, or possible Student Judicial action will be
referred by concerned staff members to the Director of the concerned
Student Health Services unit. If, after review by the Director, Student
Health Services, dismissal/loss of eligibility is considered appropriate,
a recommendation will be forwarded by the Student Health Services
Director to the Director of Student Development and University Housing.
A decision to continue interim provision of health care services to
patients being considered for dismissal from care, termination of
eligibility, or action by Student Judicial Programs will be made by
the Director, Student Health Services, on a case-by-case basis.
