
The president of
the University of South Carolina oversees the Columbia campus and is the
chief executive for the entire University System, working under the
authority
of the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees of the University of South Carolina System invites written nominations and applications for the position of President. The University is a multiple campus system of eight campuses located throughout the state with a budget in excess of $996 million and a total enrollment of 40,899 students. The President of the University is the chief executive officer of the University System with full responsibility for the academic and administrative activities of all campuses.
The University is located in the heart of South Carolina in the capital city of Columbia, which is the nexus of government and a thriving arts and culture center with a metropolitan population of approximately 700,000. Nearly 27,000 students are on the Columbia Campus. Some 32 percent are enrolled in graduate and professional programs. The University offers more than 360 degree programs, including baccalaureate degrees in 124 areas, master's degrees in 175 areas, doctoral degrees in 63 areas, and first professional degrees in law, medicine, and pharmacy. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has designated the University a research institution of “very high research activity.”
The University seeks an individual of prominence with unquestioned integrity, high energy, vision, and demonstrated leadership and administrative ability. The successful candidate will possess the qualities to lead a complex system and to represent the system effectively to all internal and external constituencies. He or she will lead the University in achieving its ambitious goals for quality and excellence established by the Board of Trustees. The Search Committee is sincerely interested in nominations and applications of persons with a distinguished record of achievement in the field of higher education or other professional field. An earned doctorate or other appropriate terminal or professional degree is highly desirable.
Nominations or applicants should submit a letter of nomination or application that includes a brief statement of education and administrative philosophy and the following: curriculum vitae including leadership, teaching, research, administrative, managerial, and fund-raising experience; professional activities; and community service.
Nominations and applications will be maintained in strict confidence until and unless the candidate agrees, near the conclusion of the process, to be named a finalist.
