Season of Women: A Celebration of Women Artists
October 3-10, 2013
Season of Women: A Celebration of Women Artists, sponsored by Opera-tunity Foundation, is a broad-based, dynamic program of performance, creative, and visual arts including music, dance, art, drama and literature. The project brings to the fore the captivating presence of women artists, their artistic compositions and creations, and cross-spectrum concerts and features of women’s contributions to the arts.
Though the scope of the project will be broad, promising to be one of the most significant celebrations of women artists ever presented in South Carolina, the cost of attendance and participation will be affordable to households of all incomes, with many free events.
Demonstrating Opera-tunity Foundation’s commitment to integration of multiple arts disciplines and involving partner organizations, the project includes collaboration with or participation by the Columbia Museum of Art (world-renowned portrait photographer and film actor Annie Leibovitz), the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, North Carolinian storyteller, comedian, and author Dorothy Kirk, Chamber Innovista, Southern Exposure and the Vista Ballroom along with vocal, flute, and choral performances at the University School of Music.
Season of Women is partnered with the Palmetto Health Foundation for National Breast Cancer Awareness week. Palmetto Health sponsors the annual Walk for Life/ Run for Life, in which as many as 10,000 walkers and runners will assemble to raise awareness of breast cancer and its prevention, and to raise funds for research and treatment. In honor of all women, Opera-tunity Foundation will donate a portion of the proceeds of Season of Women to the South Carolina Comprehensive Breast Center. We also will be participating and giving out 5000 bottles of water to walkers.
