• Teaching Excellence Grants on Teaching Leadership
  Request for Proposals
  Due: April 19, 2013
  Are you a full-time faculty member on any USC campus who wants to broaden your students’ understanding of leadership? Do you want to explore and promote strategies for teaching students about leadership and for developing their leadership skills?
  
  The Center for Teaching Excellence, in collaboration with the Carolina Leadership Initiative, solicits applications for participation in this competitive grant program to strengthen leadership education in courses taught at USC. Applications are welcomed not only from faculty who teach explicitly leadership-themed courses but also from those who would like to incorporate a leadership-related experience of some sort in a course that they teach.
  
  Applications for the 2013-2014 Teaching Excellence Grants are due April 19th, 2013.
  
  
• 2nd Annual President's Leadership Dialogue with
  Deo Niyizonkiza, M.D.
  The 2nd Annual President's Leadership Dialogue was held on February 25th in Drayton Hall. The featured speaker, Deo Niyizonkiza, shared his unique story of perseverance, triumph, and leadership with the large audience of USC students, faculty, and staff.

  After his moving speech, Deo and USC President Harris Pastides informally discussed Deo's immigration to the United States during the Burundian genocide, and his beliefs, values, and thoughts about leadership. • USC Hosts Southeastern EcoReps Conference
  The USC ECOReps recently hosted students from 16 regional colleges and universities for the Southeastern EcoReps Conference. The Carolina Leadership Initiatives' Leadership Scholar, Rebecca Marasco, was a key coordinator for the event. Her $7,500 Leadership Scholar grant was used to cover the costs of the carbon neutral event. For more information on the conference, see the Daily Gamecock's  recent featured article.
   
• New Director for the Carolina Leadership Initiative
  The Carolina Leadership Initiative is pleased to announced that Dr. Kirk Randazzo, political science associate professor, has been named the new Director for the Carolina Leadership Initiative. Read the full article announcement.

• Are You Leadership Ready in the Classroom?
  USC offers a number of curricular opportunities for developing knowledge and skills related to leadership.  We are currently exploring the creation of a minor in Leadership Studies and performing an inventory of our many courses related to leadership.  We have compiled a list of university websites that provide information about many of our curricular offerings.

• Are You Leadership Ready for Student Governance and Activities?
  The Division of Student Affairs provides a host of opportunities for leadership development, including the Student Leadership and Diversity Conference (SLDC), the Leadership Enrichment and Development (LEAD) retreat, the Leadership Resource Center and library, the USC Service Leadership Institute, the Emerging Leaders certification program (ELP), and numerous recognition programs for outstanding student leadership.  See the Student Affairs Leadership Programs website for more information. 

• Are You Leadership Ready for Research?
  The Office of Undergraduate Research helps students to develop excellence in research through a variety of programs, including the Magellan Scholars program, Discovery Day, the Discover program, and a number of other programs.

• Are You Leadership Ready for Community Service?
  USC’s Community Service Programs and our service-learning courses provide numerous occasions for developing leadership through community engagement.

• Are You Leadership Ready for International Activities?
  USC’s International Programs office facilitates study-abroad programs and other opportunities for students and faculty to gain leadership skills through cross-cultural collaboration.

• Are You Leadership Ready for Exploring Careers?
  Colleges and departments across the university offer numerous internship opportunities (including the Washington Semester and SC State Semester programs) that facilitate the development of leadership skills while enabling students to explore particular career paths.  For example, we encourage you to examine these sites that discuss internships programs facilitated by the Career Center, the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sports Management, the Honors College, the Moore School of Business, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the School of the Environment. 

• Are You Leadership Ready for Living and Learning with Your Classmates?
  USC has a number of dynamic living and learning programs that promote leadership skills among students.
