Dr. Dennis Pruitt
Vice Provost and Vice President for Student Affairs
As Vice Provost, Dr. Pruitt is
responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of
academic student-support services, including residential
learning communities, academic integrity initiatives,
pre-professional advising, fellowships and scholar programs,
University 101, enrollment management, undergraduate admissions,
orientation and testing, TRIO, the National Resource Center for
the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, the
registrar, the Visitor Center, Veterans Services, financial aid
and scholarships, the Career Center, international programs for
students and student success initiatives.
Dr. Pruitt has led the university's Division of Student
Affairs since 1983, and during his tenure, he has guided the
division through an unprecedented period of growth and success.
He designed the University of South Carolina's award-winning
enrollment management model, developed what is widely regarded
as one of the earliest and most thorough strategic-planning
processes in the field and significantly enhanced the
university's student-service programs. Dr. Pruitt's numerous
awards include the Outstanding Pillars of the Profession award
from the National Association of Student Personnel
Administrators (NASPA), NASPA's Bob E. Leach Award for Dedicated
and Outstanding Service to Students and the Armstrong State
College Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Pruitt earned his Ed.D.
from South Carolina, his master's degree in counseling/student
personnel services from West Georgia College and his bachelor's
degree in history and political science from Armstrong Atlantic
State University (formerly Armstrong State College).
