Course Description

SLIS 770 - Design and Management of Databases

Class Session: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 - Monday, April 30, 2018

Credit: 3 semester hours of graduate credit

Prerequisites: SLIS 701, 707

Note: Please register by January 9, 2018. Sections for this course: J50 SC (students living in SC); J91 Other States Cohort (students living in a state other than SC); J92 Other Countries Cohort (students living outside the US). J91 and J92 students pay the cohort tuition.


Course Description

Databases used in libraries and other information agencies, including operational and functional design. Extensive hands-on evaluation of selected database software packages.


General Information

Course will be delivered via Blackboard, recorded Adobe Presenter and Camtasia presentations and will include Adobe Connect sessions. High-speed internet access required.


Online Session Information

There will be online sessions via Adobe Connect on Mondays, 4:15 - 5:45 p.m. ET. Students may participate either live online or at a later time but are responsible for all material covered. Adobe Connect URL will be posted in Blackboard prior to the first session. High-speed Internet access is required for Adobe Connect.


Course Delivery Type

A Web course is taught using one or more web delivery platforms such as Blackboard, Streaming Video, Adobe Connect etc. Students must have access to a high-speed Internet connection. More information will be provided by the instructor in the course syllabus.

(100% asynchronous - if course has any online or face-to-face meetings, live attendance will not be required. For any such sessions, there will be alternative ways to view or obtain the material covered).
