RETL 237 - The Changing Consumer Marketplace

Class Session: Tuesday, January 16, 2018 - Monday, April 30, 2018

Credit: 3 semester hours of undergraduate credit

Note: This section is for USC Columbia students only. Open to RETL and BAIS majors only until 11/20/17; then open Retailing minors until 11/27/17; then open to all majors.


Course Description

The economic problems of everyday life presented within a business framework, promoting the students well-being as a consumer. Consideration is given to the economics of consumption, real income, consumer buying, consumer protection, operations leading to family prosperity, security, and estate planning.


Course Delivery Type

A Web course is taught using one or more web delivery platforms such as Blackboard, Streaming Video, Adobe Connect etc. Students must have access to a high-speed Internet connection. More information will be provided by the instructor in the course syllabus.

(100% asynchronous - if course has any online or face-to-face meetings, live attendance will not be required. For any such sessions, there will be alternative ways to view or obtain the material covered).


Course Materials

Textbooks are available from the USC University Bookstore in the Russell House Student Union, Greene Street, Columbia, SC, 803-777-4160 (toll free at 888-654-5320). Online text ordering is available through the bookstore Web site at www.shopgamecocks.com. Delivery options are in-store pickup or UPS shipping (Ground, Second Day, or Next Day). Students are required to indicate their course section to order online; there will be a "J" prefix on the course SECTION number for this course.
