SLIS 201 - Introduction to Information Science

Class Session: Thursday, August 23, 2018 - Friday, December 07, 2018

Credit: 3 semester hours of undergraduate credit

Note: Sections for this course: J10-Columbia; J01-Aiken - Contact Vivian Grice at 803-641-3350 for permission to enroll and course information; J02-Beaufort; and J08-Upstate. Not open to BSIS major and BSIS minor students. There will be live online sessions via Adobe Connect on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. ET. Students have the option to participate either live online or by viewing the sessions at a later time; all students are responsible for material covered. The Adobe Connect URL will be posted in Blackboard by the instructor prior to the first class meeting.


Course Description

Major concepts, principles, theories, issues, and trends in the development of Information Science.


Course Delivery Type

A Web course is taught using one or more web delivery platforms such as Blackboard, Streaming Video, Adobe Connect etc. Students must have access to a high-speed Internet connection. More information will be provided by the instructor in the course syllabus.

(100% asynchronous - if course has any online or face-to-face meetings, live attendance will not be required. For any such sessions, there will be alternative ways to view or obtain the material covered).

Students may be required to be proctored during online test completion. If students are unable to attend test proctoring sessions in person at the Distributed Learning office, additional fees may apply for online test proctoring if the course requires online testing.
