International Center of Excellence (ICoE) on Big Earth Data for Coastal Zone and Disasters to be established

Professors Cuizhen Wang and Susan Cutter of the Department of Geography to head new center

The International Digital Belt and Road Science Program (DBAR) recently approved establishing the International Center of Excellence (ICoE) on Big Earth Data for Coastal Zone and Disasters at USC's Department of Geography. The USC proposal was one of eight ICoEs approved (along with ones in Pakistan, Italy, Morocco, Zambia, Thailand, Finland, and Russia) at the 2017 DBAR Science Team Meeting on December 5, 2017, in Hong Kong, China.

The center will be co-directed by Dr. Cuizhen Wang and Dr. Susan Cutter in the department, and by Dr. Li Zhang at Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI) of Chinese Academy of Sciences.  The interdisciplinary and international team will focus on conducting productive research on coastal observation, adaptation and disaster management.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
