    Our Program

Our program emphasizes historical awareness of the perennial problems in philosophy, as well as an opportunity to pursue focused interests in several specialized areas, such as philosophy of science, moral philosophy, biomedical ethics, philosophy of language and linguistics, and ancient and modern history of philosophy, among others.

Our PhD students receive full tuition waivers and stipends, and in recent years have done well securing competitive university-wide scholarships, which provide additional support. We encourage students to participate in professional activities, and the Department and College makes funding available to grad students for traveling to present at conferences.

In addition to coursework, study, and research, graduate students have the opportunity to take part in the intellectual community of the Department of Philosophy, attending colloquia with philosophers from other universities, taking part in the Queen Street Symposium, and participating in various reading groups, for example.
