Assoc. Prof. Sarah Barker's Honor's College class attended workshops, lectures and performances at the ASC.

Associate Professor Sarah Barker and six students from her Honors College course, Shakespeare and His Contemporaries: How They Did It, recently participated in a four-day research trip to the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA. They attended performances, workshops, lectures and a panel discussion with actors and scholars who are well-versed in playing Shakespeare.  The workshops were conducted by:  Sarah Enloe, Director of Education; Cass Morris, Academic Resources Manager; and, Kimberly Newton, Director of College Prep Programs.
 

One of the lectures was given by Dr. Ralph Cohen, a co- founder of the American Shakespeare Center and its originating company, Shenandoah Shakespeare Express.  This past year he was awarded the prestigious Sam Wanamaker Award from the London-based Globe Theatre (he is the first American to receive the award).  He has also received Virginia’s Governor’s Arts Award and an award from the Folger Shakespeare Library.

For over 25 years, the American Shakespeare Center has been considered "Shakespeare's American Home," staging Shakespearean classics in the manner that they would have been presented in the Elizabethan era. 

Students participating were Emily Barber, Lauren Macbeath, Hannah Campo, Melodie Hunt, and theatre majors Michael Ferucci and Brooke Smith.
