College of Information and Communications

October 2017

Fall is a time for reconnecting

Hello, CIC friends and alums,

The weather is finally beginning to break. That means football season is in high gear. It also means Homecoming is right around the corner.

You are officially invited to the college’s Homecoming event — Gamecocks on the Green. Join us Friday, Oct. 27, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. for food, beverages and fun. Word is a very special bird will drop by for a visit.

Gamecocks on the Green is free and kid friendly, so bring the whole family. We’ll gather outside Davis College on Gibbes Green. We look forward to seeing you there  come rain or shine   and hope you’ll stick around to watch the Gamecocks beat Vandy on Saturday. You can RSVP here»

Cocky located just outside Davis College
While you’re here for Homecoming, check out the new Cocky statue unveiled Sept.15. The 6-foot-5, 773-pound statue is a sight to behold. It’s expected to become the most “selfied” spot on campus as students and visitors drop by to get their photo with Cocky. More importantly, the statue is located just outside Davis College, home to our School of Library and Information Science. As you know, Cocky’s Reading Express™ has done much to improve literacy in our state by giving books to children and getting them excited about reading. Our mascot’s involvement with the program is why the statue features a stack of books. The success of Cocky’s Reading Express was featured at the dedication.

Alumni Engagement
We asked and you volunteered. Thank you! This year’s Mentor Match was a big success. More than 90 majors from both schools were paired with local alumni and professionals for year-long mentoring. Mentors meet monthly with students and offer professional advice. Believe me, if advice comes from you, they will listen. Special thanks to Rebekah Friedman and Katie Bullard for managing this year’s program.

Enjoy the cooler weather. I look forward to seeing you at Homecoming.

Go Gamecocks!
