Big Eyed Bird Creative

Big Eyed Bird Creative is looking for ambitious, creative individuals to join our team. We are seeking candidates for our Graphic Design and Public Relations internships. Candidates should be ready to jump into the position and think creatively to solve problems.

Graphic Design candidates should have strong design skills, ability to critically problem solve, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, great communication skills, and be able to work independently. The Graphic Design intern will be required to perform a variety of duties including layout and design, concept and mockup, photo research, website design and maintenance, eBlast communications, and more.

Public Relations candidates should exhibit exceptional writing skills including media advisories and press releases. Tasks would include being responsible for drafting advisories, press releases, updating and maintaining media lists, assisting with direct media outreach, social media and various other tasks.

Our work environment is nontraditional and our client base is diverse. You will receive vast real world experience working with clients that range from non-profits to large scale events. This internship will be paid with a stipend upon completion of hours each semester worked. Interns are expected to work 15 hours per week for a total of 240 hours.

Dalton Agency

The Dalton Agency, a full-service advertising and public relations firm, seeks a public relations or advertising intern to work directly with the local account executive on the McDonald’s account. This for- credit only internship will immerse the student in the areas of public relations, advertising, media relations, local store marketing and general communications to help build the McDonald’s brand in Columbia, South Carolina. The intern will work with the local account coordinator to generate media attention through strategic outreach, develop advertising materials and work hands-on to market the brand to the city of Columbia and its many unique audiences.

The Dalton Agency prefers individuals who are self-motivated, outgoing, driven and creative! Ability to operate a Mac is preferred but not required. Knowledge of InDesign is a plus.

Hours flexible: 5-10 hours per week or more if desired. Intern must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement.

Flock and Rally is a boutique public relations and marketing agency based in Columbia that collaborates with local businesses to launch brands, develop and implement marketing strategies, execute public relations strategies and raise brand awareness in the Midlands and beyond. Our wide variety of lifestyle, arts, tech, small business and nonprofit clients make this a great opportunity for students interested in being a part of growing Columbia's local economy and making our community more connected and progressive. 

Duties Include:

  • Draft press releases, calendar blurbs and fact sheets
  • Send press materials to key media contacts
  • Develop and implement social media strategies
  • Communicate with clients and vendors as necessary
  • Monitor Google and Talkwalker alerts as they relate to our clients
  • Develop newsletters
  • Blog
  • Website development and maintenance 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills Required for Internship:

  • Solid computer and new media skills
  • Experience with Constant Contact desirable
  • Advanced skills using email, text, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, and online digital photo sites like Picasa & Flickr
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow directions while working in a relaxed setting
  • Solid grammar, spelling, syntax and interpersonal communications skills, including phone, email and in-person
  • High school diploma or GED, some college preferred
  • Creativity and event planning experience preferred
  • An interest in sustainability and green events desirable

We need Ad/PR wiz’s but find that labels are better for cans, not people. Herculean organizational skills and an innate genius at public relations are big pluses.

MPA Strategies

MPA Strategies, a PR firm, is looking for an intern to help with social media, press releases, newsletters and blog posts.  InDesign experience is preferred, but not required.  Looking for an intern to work 10-12 hours a week, with flexibly of schedule.  This is an unpaid internship.
