You need the news, not the paper.  ColaDaily is a digital newspaper that is hyper-focused on news, information and events in the Columbia SC area.

Seeking a curious, energetic and tech-savvy multimedia journalist who is excited about sharing the news that shapes our community.  Candidates should have:

COLAtoday

COLAtoday is seeking a Digital Media Intern for the Summer and Fall of 2017. 


Digital Media Interns will support the daily operations of COLAtoday, a community-focused lifestyle brand and new media product consisting of a daily morning email publication, website with original editorial content, and social media platforms, providing consumers with everything they need to know to start their day and bolster their lifestyle in Columbia, SC. 

Interns will work directly with the Engagement Editor and Multimedia Producers in building COLAtoday’s digital presence, engagement and user acquisition across multiple social media platforms and via the daily morning newsletter. 

Interns are expected to work 15-20+ hours per week. Days and times of shifts are flexible. This internship is unpaid with the option for college credit. Pending quality of work, the option of post-internship payment as a freelance Contributor may be offered.

COLAtoday is a community-focused lifestyle brand and new media product consisting of a daily morning email publication, website with original editorial content, and social media platforms providing consumers with everything they need to know to start their day and bolster their lifestyle in Columbia, SC. Produced for the community by members of the community, its vision is to create the most engaged, loyal readership and follower base in the Midlands, establishing COLAtoday as Columbia’s daily, must-read local multimedia content product.

Integrated Media Publishing

Integrated Media Publishing, which publishes Columbia Business Monthly, Greenville Business Magazine and Charleston Business Magazine, is looking for a rising senior journalism major with demonstrated writing ability to write short features for the magazines. Jeremy Kingsley

Jeremy Kingsley is a Professional Speaker and Master Storyteller, teaching principles that have inspired over 500,000 people at live events. We provide these presentations to corporate & non-profit audiences at annual conferences, conventions, etc.

We accomplish our objectives by:

  • Leveraging national media and large-scale PR opportunities
  • Booking engagements through our network of industry relationships + Maintaining strong partnerships with Speaker Bureaus & Meeting Planners
  • Building a robust online presence through social media, content marketing, etc.

Located in Columbia, interns will report directly to Jeff Miller, VP of Marketing & Events. Will work with students for credit or not for credit. Weekly time commitment is typically 10-15 hours per week and the schedule is flexible, involving a combination of in-person and remote work.

Ideal candidates are juniors or seniors (but you should apply if you have mad skills) and completion of the upper level PR course is a plus! All interns must be people of integrity, initiative, creativity, and be highly dependable. Must have a laptop and reliable transportation. At this time, internships are not paid.

Public Relations

  • Writing and sending national press releases on a regular basis
  • Leveraging opportunities through Help a Reporter Out (HARO)

Midlands Anchor

Midlands Anchor is a web-based publication showcasing Midlands talent, events, philanthropy and development.  The mission of the Anchor is to connect Midlands communities, spur engagement, and promote a collective voice that will ignite and transform the region.

Ad Account Intern Responsibilities:

  • Assist Advertising Manager in researching and courting potential clients, building business development strategy proposals and managing ongoing account responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Develop engaging visual content specific to popular community issues and topics
  • Interview community and business leaders; assist with video production of inspirational, informative and educational pieces
  • Assist CEO and Managing Editor with preparation and execution of “Midlands Matters” live panel productions
  • Attend community breakfasts, lunches and after hour events and highlight visits using social media; utilize live broadcasting opportunities whenever possible
  • Photograph events and contribute b-roll to Midlands Anchor database
  • Upload and format articles in Wordpress. Promote content and engage with community via social media.
  • Assist the CEO, Art Director and Managing Editor with miscellaneous publication tasks

Marketing Intern Responsibilities:

  • Upload and format articles in Wordpress. Promote content and engage with community via social media.
  • Manage and publish Midlands Event Calendar
  • Assist with designing and formatting bi-monthly e-newsletter
  • Occasionally attend community breakfasts, lunches and after hour events and highlight visits using social media

Visual Communications Intern Responsibilities:

  • Utilize visual and audio content to create infographics and video documentaries of various lengths
  • Interview community and business leaders; assist with video production of inspirational, informative and educational pieces
  • Assist CEO and Managing Editor with preparation and execution of “Midlands Matters” live panel productions
  • Attend community breakfasts, lunches and after hour events and highlight visits using social media; utilize live broadcasting opportunities whenever possible

Qualifications:

  • Progression towards Business Associates or College Degree with interest in Publishing, Journalism, Writing, Business, Visual Arts, History, Politics or relatable field
  • Strong research, editing and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Linkedin, Instagram and Wordpress
  • Ability to multitask and set goals; self-driven work ethic
  • Excellent people skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • Team player attitude 

Time Commitment

10 hours per week. May be negotiated prior to start date.

Compensation & Duration

This is a competitive volunteer position. Internships are offered for one semester period and may be renewed based on performance. Chosen candidate may be eligible for hire based on performance and available budget. Our curriculum meets higher education internship requirements; we highly recommend interns apply for class credit.

SC Black News

SC Black News is looking for interns to assist with production. 

We will require an intern or interns to be able to layout copy and photo's electronically for our website newspaper.  An intern also needs to be proficient with InDesign or a similar program that is capable of manipulating the newspaper.

Although content will have already been edited, in some instances the intern may be required to format advertisements from images and text. In this instance the intern will be compensated. Additionally, if an intern wishes to either write articles or take on writing assignments, we welcome that as well.

TELEVISION & DIGITAL MEDIA INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE

Internship opportunities are immediately available with the NBC affiliate in Columbus, GA in the areas of News, Production, and Weather. Selected internship candidates will receive a structured, in-depth overview of our local broadcast and digital media operation. They will also be afforded the opportunity for practical hands-on application of theory and coursework in their specific concentration or area of interest. You will work alongside our team members, be given daily assignments, and receive critique on the practical learning projects which you execute.

·      Be a student currently enrolled in a media-related and/or creative course of study including but not limited to media studies, journalism, photography, production, film, digital media, web design, graphic design, fine art, English, creative writing, etc. or meteorology.

·      Demonstrate intense curiosity and a passion to learn about media-related professions.

·      Have a basic level of knowledge in your area of interest and rudimentary experience with the tools utilized in that area.

·      Be highly organized and able to manage your time and daily workflow.

·      Have an awareness of daily news, current events, and topical issues.
