City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs- Charleston

Summer interns at the Office of Cultural Affairs have the unique opportunity to be directly involved with the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. Interns will primarily serve as house managers for a variety of festival events, communicating with volunteers, coordinators, producers, and box office to ensure successful performances. Other duties, such as helping at the Farmers Market, working at the City Gallery, and helping in the office may be required. Interns must be flexible, professional, and capable of acting in a leadership capacity. Interns will gain arts management experience, leadership and time management skills, and have the opportunity to experience all facets of the Piccolo Spoleto festival.

Duties of Intern:
JDPR's internship program provides students with exposure to a broad range of disciplines within the communications profession, including Public Relations, Media Relations, Marketing, Advertising and Event Planning. The intern will gain experience in all divisions of the agency’s business, including, but not limited to, telecommunications, building products, healthcare, lawn and garden, sports and lifestyle, and professional services accounts.
Specific roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Distributing news releases to local, regional and national media
  • Preparing media materials for distribution to target media
  • Researching media and updating media databases via web-based research tools
  • Maintaining client media placements
  • Distributing direct mail and other marketing and promotional materials to target media and consumer groups
  • Assisting in researching, writing and editing news releases for clients
  • Some administrative duties where applicable The length of the internship is 8-10 weeks, with starting and ending dates flexible according to the student's summer/semester schedule. Interns are expected to work an average of 15-20 hours per week.

Skills Required for Internship:
JDPR is looking for college students (a rising junior or senior) who are pursuing degrees in Journalism, Communications, English or related fields. The candidate must possess strong written and verbal communications skills, familiarity and proficiency with major Microsoft programs and the Internet and the ability to make cold calls for research purposes. The ideal candidate will be a disciplined, detail-oriented, exceptionally organized self-starter who is willing to work hard in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

Phase 3 Marketing and Communications is looking for a Summer 2017 Public Relations Intern.

Description: Interns at Phase 3 are an integral part of our day-to-day activities. This internship is a hands-on look at a public relations agency and interns will gain first-hand experience in social media and the world of public relations. Interns at Phase 3 will perform a variety of tasks, which include the following:

o   Conducting market research

o   Drafting social media content

o   Obtaining social media research 

o   Writing press releases, pitch letters, website copy, newsletters, bios and calendar listings for our clients

Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Conducting background research on clients and potential clients

·         Monitoring the media for stories related to clients or clients’ interests

·         Proofreading and editing documents

Requirements

WMG employs 2-3 unpaid interns each season. We pride ourselves on the strength of the program and our small team-oriented environment, which gives interns the opportunity to contribute at every level. Hours can vary to accommodate course work, but preference is given to interns who can work full-time. We look for individuals interested in communications, political outreach and public relations.
