Duties of Intern:

  • Assisting with and executing event marketing plans
  • Develop and oversee grassroots marketing campaigns on campus promoting selected Colonial Life Arena events with primary event focus on Colonial Life Arena family shows and concerts
  • Assisting in day-of-event operations associated with all Marketing events
  • Assisting with email marketing initiatives for events (creating, execution, reporting)
  • Work all home football games at Gamecock Village (fall semester only)
  • Assisting with press releases and media advisories
  • Assisting the marketing staff at booths/tables at athletic events festivals, fairs and other events with high traffic to publicize the arena and our events
  • Conducting demographics, psychographics research for various department projects
  • Assisting Marketing staff with various Marketing projects involving research
  • Assisting with data entry for Cyber Club
  • Helping to create and deliver media drops
  • Gathering event news clips
  • Assisting with updating media lists and assisting with media events
  • Assisting with brainstorming sessions and executing PR event ideas
  • The opportunity to interact with marketing and building staff when working on various projects
  • Attend weekly marketing meetings that will be beneficial in learning how the department operates  Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Skills Required for Internship:

  • Junior, Senior, and Graduate Students preferred
  • Parking, travel and housing arrangements are the responsibility of the students
  • Some event nights and/or weekend participation may be required depending on the internship
  • Part-time or full-time opportunities available
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe programs
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Must be: assertive, outgoing, creative, hard-working, resourceful and an independent thinker who is highly interested in working in Sports/Entertainment industry

Columbia Fireflies Baseball

Interns will be required to work all 70 home games and regular non-game day office hours. This internship will be provided with a monthly stipend of $1,000. Reports directly to the Head and Assistant Groundskeeper.

Gamecock Central

GamecockCentral.com is looking for journalism students who are interested in gaining real-world experience in a professional media environment by covering the South Carolina football team this fall (and possibly other sports). 

Gamecock Central is a fully credentialed media outlet that covers a variety of South Carolina sports in a variety of ways.

The intern will receive training on media etiquette and will learn about the day-to-day operations of working in sports. This includes helping in coverage of practices, press conferences and games through various mediums including written stories, video and social media.

This is an unpaid internship, but it can be used for class credit. In most cases, we can create a flexible work scheduled around a student's class schedule, but they do need to be prepared to work weekends.

  • Provide support to the Gamecock Club, Development, and Premium Seating and Events departments
  • Responsible for the design of email communications to 18,000+ Gamecock Club members
  • Create event save the date cards and invitations
  • Design Gamecock Club and season ticket postcard/mailers
  • Create graphics/gifs for use on Gamecock Club social media and/or website
  • Possibility to design Gamecock Club wall calendar and holiday card
  • Design other communications/graphics as needed
  • Possibility to use personal laptop and design software

GoFlashWin

We are GoFlashWin, the action sports photography partner for most of the high schools in the midlands of South Carolina. Based right here in Columbia, we are passionate about making a difference. We work tirelessly to do so by capturing photo memories for our student athletes and their families. Photos are always free on GoFlashWin.com. We believe in the art of action photography and promote a culture in which our photographers help one another to better their craft. We work with the best professional photographers in the area. We sell advertising on GoFlashWin.com and give a portion of the revenue back to our partner schools.

We are currently looking for two interns for social media and event staff.

Social Media Intern:

Job Description 
We are currently seeking interns to join our Social Media Team. We are looking for individuals with excellent verbal and written communication skills to help coordinate all social media efforts. Interns will be responsible for executing multiple social media campaigns in a fast-paced environment and under the direction of the Social Media Manager. Working hours are typically in the late afternoon and evening, as they center around high school athletic events. Ideal candidates should have a positive attitude, be organized, detail-oriented, a dependable team player, and demonstrate a sense of urgency.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure all content creation and social media campaigns are aligned and integrated with our communication and brand marketing strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date on all platform innovations, user experience changes and trends.
  • Work closely with the Social Media Manager to create new and exciting content for all social media platforms.
  • Work with the Social Media Team to execute the daily social media needs of the company, while producing results in line with our overall vision.

Event Staff Intern: 

Job Description

We are looking for individuals with excellent verbal and written communication skills to help communicate the vision and success of GoFlashWin. Interns will be responsible for marketing our product to parents at events, under the direction of the Marketing Manager. Working hours are typically in the late afternoon and evening, as they center around high school athletic events. Ideal candidates should have a positive attitude, be organized, detail-oriented, a dependable team player, and demonstrate professionalism and excitement when speaking to the target audience. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Present our product to our target audience (parents) at various high school athletic events.
  • Engage with those interested in our product to answer questions, promote our brand, and gather information that will enhance our marketing strategies. 
  • Work closely with the Marketing Manager to create new and exciting content for event presentations.
  • Work with the Event Staff Marketing Team to execute the marketing needs of each event, while producing results in line with our overall vision.

Duties:
The Digital & Social Media Intern will learn about marketing and communications in college athletics using new media formats. This includes:

  • Monitoring and creating content for athletics department social network accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and Pinterest
  • Social media engagement measurement; developing and executing social media marketing initiatives
  • Assisting with e-mail marketing initiatives; and creating and publishing video
  • Photo and other digital media.

Skills Required: 

  • Professionalism and reliability are a must.
  • Working knowledge of social networks and new media including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and Pinterest.
  • Design knowledge (e.g. Adobe Photoshop) is very helpful.

Availability: Candidates must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as most sporting events are scheduled during this time. Candidates should also be available for all home events for their respective sport(s).

Duties:
The Emcee is the voice behind the entertainment at Gamecock Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Volleyball and Softball games. The Emcee will work closely with South Carolina’s Marketing Department to add an extra entertainment value to various sports. Include announcing all in-game promotional elements (trivia, t-shirt toss, halftime contest, etc.) for Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, or Softball.

Skills Required: 
Candidates must have experience in public speaking or broadcasting. A general understanding of Soccer, Volleyball, or Softball would be helpful, but is not required.

Availability: Candidates must be willing and able to work office hours throughout the week. Candidates will be heavily relied upon to complete graphical designs in a timely manner. Marketing will work with candidate’s class schedule.

Duties:
The graphic designer will be the individual behind South Carolina’s graphical creations. The graphic designer will work closely with South Carolina’s Marketing Department to add creativity while enhancing the University of South Carolina brand. This position will be responsible for the creation of all promotional signage for all South Carolina Athletics. Duties will include but are not limited to the creation of promotional flyers, billboards, and social media graphics.

Skills Required: 
Candidates must have professional experience with Adobe Design (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). Experience in both Macintosh and Microsoft programs.

South Carolina Football

South Carolina Football is looking to hire graphic design interns.  This internship will consist of helping the Director of External Communications with varying projects including, but not limited to, assisting with graphics, designing materials for events, and creating content for social media. Applicants should have a strong understanding of Adobe Photoshop (experience with After Effects is a plus.)
