Clinical Assistant Professor in Secondary Humanities Education

The Department of Instruction & Teacher Education at the University of South Carolina’s College of Education seeks a full time (10.5 month) Clinical Assistant Professor in Secondary Humanities Education to begin January or August 2017. The USC Secondary Education program (grades 9-12) also advocates for school-based collaboration and instructional practices that are responsive to cultural and ethnic diversity. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in Secondary Humanities (Social Studies and/or English) Education.

The successful candidate will join a team of faculty and be expected to: (1) teach general education courses within the Secondary Education program; (2) teach Social Studies methods courses in the M.T. and M.A.T. secondary program; (3) teach general education courses in the M.Ed. in Teaching online program; (4) advise M.T. and M.A.T. students in secondary Social Studies and English programs, (5) supervise M.T. and M.A.T. students in secondary Social Studies and English programs during clinical experiences; and (6) collaborate with Secondary Social Studies and/or English coordinators on accreditation activities.

Applicants must have: (1) an earned doctoral degree in Secondary Social Studies, English, or related field in the humanities conferred before the date of appointment; (2) at least three years of secondary teaching experience (teaching Social Studies, English or related humanities field in grades 9-12); (3) an ability to teach general education and social studies methods courses within the M.T. and M.A.T. Secondary Education programs; (4) an ability to teach courses in the M.Ed. in Teaching online program; (5) a demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse students; and (6) experience using technology in teaching.

Preference will be given to applicants who: (1) demonstrate expertise with educational uses of technology; (2) have experience supervising teacher candidates in clinical field experiences; and (3) have experience with school-university partnerships and settings.
