Clinical Assistant Professor in Elementary Education

The Department of Instruction & Teacher Education at the University of South Carolina’s College of Education seeks a full-time (10.5-month) Clinical Assistant Professor in Elementary Education to begin August 16, 2017. The incumbent will provide leadership in Elementary Education clinical field experiences across degree programs (B.A. residential, M.A.T. residential, and Palmetto College online). The UofSC Elementary Education program has a strong commitment to field-based clinical experiences as an integral component of initial teacher preparation. The UofSC Elementary Education program also advocates for school-based collaboration within a Professional Development School model and instructional practices that respond to cultural and ethnic diversity.

The successful candidate will join a team of faculty and will be expected to: (1) provide leadership in the development of quality supervisors; (2) develop innovative practices in the supervision of distance candidates; (3) supervise teacher candidates involved in clinical field experiences within the B.A., M.A.T, and/or Palmetto College degree programs; (4) collaborate with schools within the UofSC PDS Network; and (5) teach courses within the Elementary Education program.

Applicants must have: (1) an earned doctorate in Elementary Education or closely related area by August 2017; (2) at least three years of elementary teaching experience; (3) experience supervising teacher candidates during their clinical field experiences; (4) ability to teach general education or possibly subject area methods courses within the B.A., M.A.T, or Palmetto College degree programs; (5) ability to interact with diverse audiences; (6) ability to incorporate innovative pedagogies and technologies in their teaching; and (7) demeanor that is professional in nature.

Preference will be given to applicants who: (1) possess expertise in both clinical experience supervision and elementary education; (2) display evidence of the ability to provide leadership in the development of quality supervisors across residential and on-line degree programs; (3) demonstrated record of successful teaching at the elementary and university levels, including online teaching; and (4) display the potential to develop innovative practices in the supervision of distance candidates.
