When registering for any Praxis exam, list both the University of South Carolina (5818) and the South Carolina Department of Education (8108) as score recipients.

The College of Education has workshops and other resources available for help preparing for the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators exam.

Which Praxis exam do I take, Praxis Core or Praxis II?

Students in undergraduate teacher certification programs take the Praxis Core exam to meet the entry requirement for their Professional Program. You will take the Praxis II exam typically  during your Senior year as part of the teacher certification process.

How do I schedule the Praxis Core exam?

Can I substitute another test for the Praxis Core?

You can use a qualifying score on the ACT or SAT in place of the Praxis Core:

ACT 24 (Composite)
SAT taken prior to March 2005 Combined Verbal & Math scores of 1100
SAT taken after March 2005 Combined Critical Reading, Math, & Writing scores of 1650

Can I take the ACT or SAT again instead of the Praxis Core?

Yes.

What sections of the Praxis Core do I have to take?

You must pass the Reading, Writing, and Mathematics sections by the deadline for your program.

What is the deadline for passing the Praxis Core?

Deadlines vary by program. College of Education students can find deadlines in their Advisement Guide/Handbook for their program. If you are a student at another college, consult your advisor for your program-specific deadline.

What is a passing score on the Praxis Core?

For the Reading component, a passing score is 156. For the Writing component, a passing score is 162. For the Math component, a passing score is 150.

How many times can I take the Praxis Core?

What are the fees for taking the Praxis Core?

If I don't pass all three sections of the Praxis Core, do I have to take all three sections over?

No. You only have to retake the sections you did not pass.
