CarolinaLIFE Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply?

Download and complete the CarolinaLIFE application packet [pdf]. Submit all required documentation by February 1st.

How many students do you accept per year?

We accept 4 to 8 students per academic year. We have a maximum capacity of 20 students per year.

Do you accept new students in the spring?

No, we only admit new students in the fall.

Will my student still be considered if they do not meet all admission requirements?

Yes, we encourage all interested students to apply!

What kind of candidates are you looking for?

We look for students who are motivated and enthusiastic about attending college. Students must be able to navigate a college campus and city landscape with minimal support, use time management strategies to attend class and work reliably, actively engage with peers, communicate wants, desires, and needs, demonstrate basic safety skills, exhibit basic reading and math skills, and abide by the University’s Code of Conduct.

Is dual enrollment an option with CarolinaLIFE?

No, students enrolled in CarolinaLIFE are full time, non-degree students. Students take USC courses for audit.

Can I transfer my credits to a degree seeking program?

No, students participate in all USC courses under the audit status. Taking courses for credit is not an option by reason of admission status.

Do students have a curfew?

Typical of college, students do not have a curfew. However, our resident mentors offer guidance, encourage healthy sleep habits, and monitor students’ general whereabouts on campus.

Do students get tickets to sporting events?

Yes, attending sporting events is a central part of the USC experience. As part of your university fees, students are provided seats in the student section.
