Certificate of Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership
Over the next decade, many senior leadership professionals will retire from the South Carolina Technical College System, thus the Community College Leadership Alliance was created to assist in the development of the next generation of leadership. Partnering with the University of South Carolina College of Education, the CCLA features two main programs:
The 18-hour, for-credit Certificate of Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership will provide aspiring higher education leaders with a foundation of essential knowledge and skills to succeed on any college or university campus. The University of South Carolina is responsible for the development and delivery of the courses through its higher education and student affairs program in the College of Education. Therefore, all potential students must apply for this program through the University of South Carolina's graduate school. Learn more about the program, including course requirements and application guidelines.
The noncredit Leadership Academy was developed to provide a focused, accessible and affordable leadership development program for experienced college personnel who have the potential to become deans, directors and vice presidents. Annually, 25 participants are selected by college presidents through a process designed at the local colleges.
The program consists of at least four group sessions totaling approximately 10 days. Academy participants will interact with national and regional experts discussing leadership issues in community colleges, including one session on the political process as it relates to higher education. Participants must select a leadership project on their campus approved by their president, and they must identify a personal mentor to assist them with the project and the development of a personal leadership plan. Designed for individuals who have already completed a master's degree or higher in counseling, psychology or social work, the certificate program is designed to meet the requirements of the Association for Play Therapy for post-master's graduate education for individuals interested in pursuing the registered play therapy credential. The certificate is also available to students already enrolled in the counselor education degree programs at the Ed.S. and Ph.D levels.
