The Master of Teaching in Secondary Education is designed for current University of South Carolina undergraduate students who would like to become secondary education teachers. The program typically requires one additional year of graduate-level classes beyond your bachelor's degree.
The Master of Art in Teaching degree was designed for career changers. That is, it is intended for prospective graduate students who currently hold a bachelor's degree, pursued a professional career in something other than education and would now like to become a licensed teacher. On average, students complete this program in two years.
For professional educators who are already licensed, master's degree programs help teachers expand expertise in early childhood, teaching and learning, and language and literacy. Doctoral programs in these fields prepare professionals for research and leadership roles in preK-12, higher education and agency settings.
