Physical Education: Degree Programs

As a physical education teacher,your passion for sports will have a positive impact on the physical health and athletic performance of young people throughout your career; our programs will help you build the skills and knowledge to stay at the top of your game.

 

Minor in Physical Education (Athletic Coaching)

The minor in Athletic Coaching is a great way to explore your interests in coaching without having to sacrifice your focus on your major. Minoring in coaching will help you build skills and acquire the knowledge of coaching sport teams at a variety of levels. It also has the option for you to complete a practicum where you will be able to lead a small team as part of your experience. Physical Education, B.S.P.E.

The Bachelor of Science in Physical Education is a comprehensive program that will help you to build a wide range of abilities. These include, but are not limited to using understanding learning styles and approaches, different communication techniques, and the use of information technology to assess and approach the needs of your students. Of course, you will also have extensive training in the skills that will prepare you to direct students in physical activity. Physical Education, M.A.T. (P-12 Certification)

If you have a baccalaureate degree outside of education, and would like to become a certified physical education teacher, explore our Master of Art in Teaching program.

If your degree is in a subject other than physical education, exercise science or kinesiology, you may need to complete additional prerequisites. Application deadlines are March 15 for summer and fall admission and October 15 for winter and spring admission. Physical Education, Ph.D.

The Ph.D. program in Physical Education focuses on physical education pedagogy and motor behavior skills. You will leave the program prepared to perform studies in physical education as well as with increased skills in developmental and kinesiology research.
