What will I study?
Our M.S. program in Biomedical Engineering will focus on the quantitative methods characteristic of engineering that are not a primary focus of traditional medical or biological education. The core courses of the curriculum are taught by Engineering as well as School of Medicine faculty. You may choose between a variety of electives tailored to your specific interests.
In combination with research, this program will provide you with the necessary skill set for obtaining an advanced industry, or research and development position.
A total of 30 credit hours are required for the M.S. in Biomedical Engineering. This includes 12 hours in core BMEN courses, 6 hours in BMEN electives, 3 hours in BMEN or other approved electives, 3 BMEN seminar hours, and 6 hours of thesis preparation.
What will I research?
Our Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering is a collaborative effort among the Chemical and Mechanical Engineering departments at USC, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the USC School of Medicine. Faculty from all three colleges and schools will collaborate in research. In addition, USC faculty will collaborate on research with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Clemson University through several federally-funded initiatives.
Ongoing research activity among Biomedical Engineering core and affiliate faculty includes tissue engineering, biomaterials development, computational modeling, biomolecular engineering, and biomechanical engineering, as well as many other areas aligned with national and international research thrusts in this ever changing discipline.
