My Honors College

Advising Checklist

First things first, keep an eye on your inbox! You’ll receive a unique link to your Honors College advisor’s calendar in Pathfinder. Follow the instructions to sign up for the earliest appointment available during your assigned window in order to have access to the best classes.

Pick out some classes. Here’s the fun part!  Consult the university bulletin, your major advisor, and Degreeworks to determine which classes you need for your major, minor, and Carolina Core. (Please note: Honors College courses do not always appear correctly in Degreeworks, so please review your honors requirements with your Honors College advisor.)

Peruse the Honors College course list to identify any overlapping classes and especially any cool classes that really jump out at you. You can keep track of your Honors progression with advising checklists. There’s one for students who started at the University before 2014 and one for students who started in 2014 or later [pdf]. Once you know which classes you’d like to take next semester, use the schedule planner tool in Self Service to create a schedule that you like. Remember that popular classes do fill up, so it’s a good idea to have a few alternates.

Look up your Honors Advisor’s office address and double-check that it’s the right day. Plan to arrive a few minutes early with your completed pre-advising questionnaire. (You’ll receive a unique link to this questionnaire in an advising email.) It’s a good idea to bring your computer with you, along with any forms from your major advisor. Enjoy your advising appointment! Your Honors Advisor is a specialized mentor for you, so take advantage of this valuable time together. Discuss your academic goals, career goals, dreams and challenges.
