Catherine Luthren is currently the director of development for the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) at the University of South Carolina. In this role, Catherine is responsible for raising funds for the University on behalf of the College of HRSM. She does this by establishing and maintaining relationships with alumni, industry contacts and friends of the University while networking and building bridges between students and employers, faculty and industry contacts, and influential people in the community. Catherine is also responsible for maintaining industry advisory boards for HRSM departments. She represents donors on the scholarship committee within the College and ensures donor’s wishes are granted when it comes to awarding worthy-student scholarship dollars. In addition to these duties, Catherine teaches SPTE 202: Introduction to Live Entertainment.
Catherine has worked for the University of South Carolina for 10 years, 8 of those in the College of HRSM. Prior to working for the University of South Carolina, Catherine held jobs in almost all of the industries represented by the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management. She has been a DJ at a radio station, worked for Clear Channel Entertainment, and did an Internship with Atlantic Records in New York City. She worked part-time during her undergraduate career at USC for Outback Steakhouse in restaurant management and immediately after graduating was a retail store manager for Handpicked. Working in the unique industries that our college represents gives Catherine authenticity when speaking to industry professionals as well as alumni. In addition to her duties as for the College of HRSM, Catherine regularly presents at conferences on philanthropy, was named a 2014 Rising Star Honoree by Columbia, S.C.’s Influential Women in Business and most recently was asked to take part as the representative for development and alumni relations in the University of South Carolina’s Emerging Leaders Program for 2015-2016.
