These are not your typical cooking "demonstrations."
In many similar classes, you sit back and watch a chef do all of the cooking as he or she demonstrates a variety of cooking techniques. Our classes are not for onlookers, but rather for those of you who are ready to get your hands (and clothes) a little dirty. You will actually be doing the cooking, learning three to five new recipes in the process. So come to class dressed comfortably and be ready for some fun!
Offered approximately twice a month, our Chef du Jour classes take place at the McCutchen House, located on the historic Horseshoe, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays (unless otherwise specified). Seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes fill quickly so make your reservations early.

Muffins and Scones

In this class, we'll cover the pitfalls of making muffins, then give you great recipes for blueberry streusel and poppy seed pastries. Quick and Easy Soups
During the fall and winter months, we enjoy eating hearty, warm meals. Our class will show you how to make quick soups that you can put together with minimal effort and ingredients. We'll cover the classics such as chicken noodle and fish chowder, but we'll also cover recipes, such as butternut squash soup, that you may not have tried to prepare. $65.00 per person. Register now.

Shrimp and Mussels
This class will help answer all of the questions that you may have about both of these seafoods. We'll cover what to look for when purchasing shrimp and mussels and how to store them properly. Winter Vegetable Ideas
Every fall, grocers provide incredible produce of the season. But what can you do with it? This class will teach you about what seasonal vegetables are on the market and to use them. Freshly made bread is an incredible treat that everyone loves. Bread is not difficult to make if you understand the basic steps, ratio of dry to wet ingredients and the proper kneading techniques. In our extended class, we'll take you through the entire bread making process from ingredient selection and how to make dough to kneading techniques, loaf formation and baking. We'll also show you how to use the dough to make different types of shaped rolls. A light lunch will be provided. $90.00 per person. Register now.

Pie Making 101
Our class will demystify the general pitfalls of making pies. We'll show you how to make an easy pie crust for fruit pies along with fancy top crusts and streusel toppings. Instead of using canned pie filling, we'll show you how to incorporate fresh apples and pears for fillings. Also, we'll demonstrate how to make cream filled pies (coconut cream for example) which are also a hit. At the end, you'll take home all of the pies you made to share with your friends and family. $65.00 per person. Register now.

There is no need to feel stressed after taking our class on how to create a four-course meal for the holiday season. In our class, we'll show you how to make a roasted injected turkey breast, homemade stuffing, roasted beets and other vegetables. Braising Comfort Foods
This class will show you the basics of braising meats and great side dishes that can be served alongside them. We'll cover how to braise lamb shanks, chicken thighs, beef short ribs and osso buco.
