Required Assignments Overview

Orientation:
Students are required to attend an orientation meeting the semester prior to enrolling in HRTM 290 or HRTM 495.This will help students know what to expect during their internship, what jobs qualify for the internship, etc. This is a great time for students to ask questions and become familiar with the practicum / internship process. For a quick list of practicum and internship pre-requisites, click here (PDF).

Practicum/Internship Information Survey:
At the beginning of the course, students are required to complete an online survey about their internship location.

Assignments:
There will be approximately 7-10 essay type assignments. Students are encouraged to keep a daily journal to help with these assignments. All assignments will be submitted via Blackboard under the "Assignments" tab. Students should use knowledge learned from previous coursework and experience to help them with the assignments. Assignments will be related to operations, sales, marketing, organizational structure, leadership styles, communication, finance and current trends in the industry.

The final assignment will be related to a project that you are expected to initiate. Remember, you should make this organization a better place to work because of your contributions and work ethic. Contribute something great to make them want you as a permanent team member.

Mid-Term Evaluations:
An evaluation will be sent to your employer via email. Your employer is encouraged to discuss the evaluation with you so you know where to improve and what you do well!

There will also be an evaluation posted on Blackboard for you to complete. You are expected to give a thorough self-evaluation. Describe the activities you are good at and ones that need improvement. Discuss with your employer how you can improve on these activities.

Final Evaluations:
An evaluation will be sent to your employer via email. Your employer is encouraged to discuss the evaluation with you so you know where to improve and what you do well!

There will also be an evaluation posted on Blackboard for you to complete. You are expected to give a thorough self-evaluation. Describe the activities you are good at and ones that need improvement. Discuss with your employer how you can improve on these activities. Discuss how you improved from your first evaluation.

Work Hours Verification:
You will be required to submit two forms of work hours verification. For the first form, you will create a document to track your hours (an Excel spreadsheet is the best way to do this). For the second form of verification, you must submit your paycheck stub. If you are not getting paid or are only being paid for part of the hours, you will need a signed letter on the organization's letterhead from your supervisor stating how many hours you worked. If you do not provide at least two forms of verification, you will receive an "incomplete" for the course.
