Dr. John Grady, an associate professor in the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina, became president of the Sport and Recreation Law Association (SRLA) at the association's recent meeting in New Orleans.
SRLA is the premier national association of legal scholars in sport and recreation management. He will serve a three-year term, including president-elect, president, and past president beginning immediately. He will serve as president beginning in March 2016. Grady’s research primarily focuses on the legal aspects of the business of sport. This includes concentrations in the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as intellectual property protection for professional and collegiate sports properties as well as protecting sponsors of mega sport events, such as the Olympics, from ambush marketing.
Grady’s research has been recognized nationally. He is a research fellow in SRLA and a previous recipient of the association’s award for professional service. At South Carolina, Grady is a recent recipient of the Michael J. Mungo Undergraduate Teaching Award, the university’s highest teaching honor.
