Change Better Prepares Students
Lunch at the McCutchen House will have a new look and feel when the historic building, located on the University of South Carolina’s Horseshoe, opens its doors for the fall semester on September 3.
The premise behind the change is to prepare students earning course credit in the
School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) located in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management (HRSM) to best meet the needs of the industry and to set them up for success.
Additions for the fall include your choice of a salad (tomato mozzarella, watercress, McCutchen chop), soup (signature she-crab bisque or the soup of the day), entrée (rotating sandwich choice, vegetarian dish and two alternative rotating weekly dishes) with sides, along with numerous additions to the dessert bar (chocolate walnut pie, key lime pie, carrot cake cupcakes, banana and chocolate bread pudding, Reese’s peanut butter cheesecake, strawberry coffee cakes, Godiva pot de crème, red velvet macarons and s’mores bars). Beverage additions include iced coffee or café latte option and a peach and pink lemonade. As the seasons allow, produce at McCutchen House will be locally grown and South Carolina certified (whenever possible). Check out our full list of the weekly fall menu.
Our students will have a different look in the fall as they fashion new garnet and black Tartan bowties, which were introduced by our Department of Retailing in 2014 where proceeds go to benefit scholarships in the College of HRSM. Dubbed “Old Cocky,” the university’s tartan was made official by the Scottish Register of Tartans and is one of only a handful of institutions with that distinction in the country.
While the bistro dining options feature a variety of new options for patrons, many of the McCutchen House staples will remain in place. The famous McCutchen House tomato pies return as well the chocolate walnut pie to the dessert bar. Cost of the bistro meal will continue at $10 and hours of operation remain from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday though Friday during the semester (excluding holidays and university breaks).
