Duties of Intern:
Public Relations Intern Job Description: The public relations intern works with the Study Abroad Office staff to gain publicity for office activities, events, programs, and especially prospective and returned students who have earned scholarship awards, taken part in unique opportunities abroad and achieved great things. This is a paid position consisting of approximately 10 hours per week for the duration of the academic year. Standard work hours are between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, though some evening and weekend hours may be required. The intern will be assigned a mentor in the office who will provide guidance and direct public relations projects. Duties: The public relations intern is involved in a range of promotional and public relations activities, such as those listed below. Exact duties will vary given Office needs at the time. • Write press releases detailing the students, programs, or events to be publicized • Prepare and/or edit publications for internal and external audiences, such as informational flyers, student newsletters and office reports • Assist with the promotion of fall and spring study abroad fairs, including developing promotional materials and informational handouts • Build relationships with campus media outlets and maintain Office database of departmental media contacts and resources • Respond to requests for information from the media; gather and provide information to appropriate Office point person for dissemination • Study the objectives, promotional policies and needs of the Office to develop public relations strategies that will promote ideas, programs and services, particularly from the student perspective • Plan and conduct market and public opinion research to test ideas or determine potential for program success, communicating results to Office staff • Arrange public appearances, lectures, contests, or exhibits for the Office to increase program and service awareness • Monitor and maintain Office social media accounts • Complete special projects related to study abroad as assigned

Skills Required for Internship:
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have very strong written and verbal communication skills as well as strong computer skills; creativity and the ability to effectively express ideas; a friendly, professional demeanor; and the ability to function as part of a team. Candidates must be able to work the entire academic year. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have also studied, worked, volunteered, interned or taught abroad; have an academic background in public relations, advertising, marketing, or related field.
