Master of Library and Information Science

If you’re looking for a career in a library or information center, consider our Master of Library and Information Science degree. It prepares students for jobs in colleges, schools, communities, industries, businesses and other institutions. And there are lots of options to consider — degrees can be earned on campus, online and at an accelerated pace.

Overview

Our master's program offers students the option of earning a degree through a combination of on-campus and online classes or totally online, except for internships.

Our students take 36 hours of coursework, including nine hours of required classes. They tailor the bulk of their classes (27 hours) toward their career interests with the help of faculty advisors.

Our students also can choose from three areas of specialization for earning their degree on a fast track. These courses are all completed online in about 18 months, except for your internship.

If you are interested in becoming a school librarian, our certification program is the right choice for you.  Our program prepares students to work and teach in school libraries across the country.

More details are in our graduate handbook (pdf).
