Carolina Trombone Collective

Distinction for the Carolina Trombone Collective

The USC School of Music trombone studio will be well represented at this year's International Trombone Festival in Columbus, Georgia June 27–29. Based on a competitive audition recording, the Carolina Trombone Collective was selected to give two performances at the festival. On the second performance, they will be premiering a new composition, "Recursions" by Tennessee composer Kenyon Wilson. Their trip to this event was made possible through the generosity of the School of Music.

In addition to conducting the ensemble, trombone professor Brad Edwards was commissioned to write a new piece for three solo bass trombones and trombone choir that will premier on the opening night concert with soloists Denson Paul Pollard of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, James Markey of the Boston Symphony and Charlie Vernon of the Chicago Symphony.

On the last day of the festival, Dr. Edwards will lead a large group warm-up session and has also been asked to guest-conduct the University of Alabama Trombone Choir in a performance of his composition, "BoneWeek Fanfare #6." This festival also marks the official launch of Edwards' latest book, "Lip Slur Melodies."
