Bio

A Charleston, SC native, George Fetner has composed pieces for orchestra, wind ensemble, chamber groups, soloists, computers, installations, improvisers, flash mob, and rock band and has had premieres in Europe and the United States on programs such as the North American Saxophone Alliance, the UNC Greensboro New Music Festival, and the 21 Sounds New Music Series, and by groups DecodaDark in the SongC-Street Brass, and the South Carolina Philharmonic.

He continues to compose and perform regularly as a soloist, and has appeared on the Southern Exposure New Music Series as an electric guitarist. He released two albums and toured nationally as the founding member of rock group Pinna. His latest studio album of elecroacoustic works, Beneath the Ice, features University of South Carolina faculty and alumni and is described as “amorphous and wordlessly emotive like the best experimental electronic music.” (Free-Times)

Fetner received his BM, and in 2015 his MM in Composition from the University of South Carolina. In 2015, he was the recipient of the John and Lucrecia Herr Award for Composition and the Trenholm Artist Guild Composition Award. His primary teachers include Jesse Jones, John Fitz Rogers, and Reginald Bain.

Since 2008 he as worked as the Assistant to the Director of Music Admissions at the School of Music, recruiting high school students to begin their professional careers as musicians at USC.
