College of Nursing

Message from the Dean

You’ve come to an exceptional place! Our College of Nursing, the flagship university for the state of South Carolina, has the largest student body in the state, is nationally recognized, and is getting even better.  With over 1500 undergraduate and graduate students, approximately 120 nationally and internationally known faculty, and dedicated and resourceful staff, we have a lot of exciting things going on.  To capture in one word - MOMENTUM.

In 2012, we achieved 96%-100% pass rates on NCLEX and nurse practitioner certification exams, established the first nurse-managed medical home in the state, and designated and further actualized two College of Nursing "Research Centers": the Cancer Center and the Healthcare Process Redesign Center .  These accomplishments enhance our existing resources, such as the Center for Nursing Leadership, Children and Family Health Center, and our state-of-the-art Simulation Laboratory.  Yes, The University of South Carolina College of Nursing is on a mission to transform and positively impact the health care of the citizens of South Carolina and beyond.

If you are a student and looking for an innovative, caring, and world-class environment, we invite you to explore our bachelor’s of nursing science program, master’s in nursing science programs, or one of our two doctoral programs – the Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) and Philosophy of Science (Ph.D.) programs.

If you are a potential faculty member looking to work with an energetic, compassionate, and collaborative team, we invite you consider joining us. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has designated the University of South Carolina as one of only 73 public and 32 private academic institutions with “very high research activity”. Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, is the center of an increasingly sophisticated greater metropolitan area with a population over 750,000.  The inspirational environments in the College, university, and community are all aspiring to even greater heights of excellence.

If you are a supporter, you can witness the impact your ideas and resources are having. And if you have thoughts about new opportunities to facilitate healthcare education, practice, or research activities or solutions, we hope you will find further insights here and perhaps work with us to do even more.

As the new dean, you can see why I am so excited to join this team. In essence, I have returned to my alumnus school and it is great to be home.  We invite you to join us on this incredible journey as we move ahead this year.  Explore our website and discover all that the College of Nursing offers. Even better, please contact us with any questions you may have or to schedule a visit.
