Message from the Dean

You’ve come to an exceptional place! Our College of Nursing, the flagship university for the state of South Carolina, has the largest student body in the state, is nationally recognized, and well established reputation for quality and excellence. With approximately 1400 undergraduate and graduate students, approximately 120 nationally and internationally known faculty, and dedicated and resourceful staff, we have an abundance of energy, innovation, and momentum to shape health care and the future of nursing.

The College of Nursing  is ranked #3 in the country by the US News & World Report for our online graduate nursing programs. The quality of our academic programs are exceptional with continuous 95%-100% pass rates on NCLEX and nurse practitioner certification exams, our state-of-the-art Simulation Laboratory innovative teaching strategies with flipped classrooms, online delivery, and committed faculty.   We excel in nursing practice with the first nurse-managed medical home in the state housed in the College of Nursing’s own Children and Family Healthcare Center, and exceptional master’s and doctoral programs focused on nursing practice.

Our research mission is enhanced with a record year of National Institutes of Health  (NIH) funding in 2014 and our interprofessional  Cancer Survivorship Center . Our PhD in Nursing Science  program is thriving with full and part-time students funded with full or partial fellowships.  These accomplishments enhance our existing resources, such as the Center for Nursing Leadership, which houses the state’s nursing healthcare workforce center, the Cockcroft Leadership program, and the Institute of Medicine taskforce/SC One Voice One Plan.  Yes, The University of South Carolina College of Nursing is on a mission to transform and positively impact the health care of the citizens of South Carolina and beyond.

If you are a student and looking for an innovative, caring, and world-class environment, we invite you to explore our bachelor’s of nursing science program, master’s in nursing science programs, or one of our two doctoral programs – the Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.) and Philosophy of Science (Ph.D.) programs. We will be admitting students into several new programs in 2015, so check out the website to learn more about these new offerings.

If you are a potential faculty member looking to work with an energetic, compassionate, and collaborative team, we invite you consider joining us.
